Simple, unattended funerals

A Direct Cremation is an alternative to a traditional funeral. It is a simple, low cost funeral, and it is becoming a popular option for a variety of reasons. It involves the cremation of the deceased without a funeral service or mourners in attendance.

The typical cost of cremation without service is lower because the expense of premium coffins, flowers, venue, cars, celebrants, and the funeral service itself are not included, or required.

A Direct Cremation also provides loved ones with greater flexibility to say goodbye in their own way, and at their own time, with many holding a “celebration of life” service or gathering in a more informal setting to a crematorium, at a time convenient to them.

How it works

We transfer the deceased from the place of death into our care during working hours, provide a basic coffin, conveying the deceased to the Crematorium in a suitable vehicle at a time and day convenient to ourselves. This will take place within 10 working days of the paperwork being completed

Administrative tasks are bewildering in normal circumstances and can be even more so when a close relative or friend passes away. The good news is that there is really only one form that you will personally need to fill and sign while the rest will be filled by doctors, registrars, etc. We will help you fill out that one form and most of the time, all you have to do is just sign it, making the whole process effortless.

We will e-mail or post the relevant paperwork for you to sign. If we post the paperwork, we will include a self addressed envelope for you to return them easily to us.

The cremated remains can be left at the Crematorium and scattered in the garden of remembrance, or if you wish the cremated remains will be available for collection from the Crematorium in a bio-degradeable container by the Applicant, or a designated representative.

Alternatively we can bring the cremated remains back in to our care and look after them for collection from us.

What are the typical costs?

The cost of funerals has been frequently discussed in recent years, particularly because they have been continuing to rise. The average cost of a basic traditional funeral has increased to £4,475*, which can be even higher with any added extras you may choose.

A Direct Cremation with us costs just £1490.00, including all necessary fees, and conveying the deceased into our care up to a 30 mile radius. This typically covers everything you need for a simple cremation, including collection and care of the deceased, administration fees, cremation in a simple coffin and safe keeping of the ashes if they are not left at the crematorium. In this price we will also put a death notice on our company Facebook page, this can also include a photograph of your choosing.

By choosing a direct cremation, the money that is saved can be spent on a separate farewell event or left as a gift to family or even a chosen charity.

Payment in full will be required upfront when making the arrangements.

A charge of £1.60 per mile will be added for any additional milage.

FAMOUS PEOPLE WHO HAD A SIMPLE FUNERAL

John Lennon

The death of Beatles star John Lennon, aged 40, rocked the whole world in 1980. A person of this level of fame could have had a huge funeral service, attended by millions of fans and fellow celebrities. However, he had no formal funeral. He was cremated in secrecy in New York, and his ashes given back to his family.

David Bowie

The musical Legend David Bowie who died more recently also did not have a conventional funeral service. Before his death, Bowie had decided to arrange a simple cremation for himself with no other service or celebration. Bowie’s body was cremated without any of his family or friends present.

Anita Brookner

The novelist died aged 87 and requested that no funeral be held on her behalf. Just like Bowie, Brookner arranged a direct cremation, where the body is taken straight from the hospital or place of death to the crematorium. The ashes are either returned to the family or scattered by the undertakers.
